Fundraiser Expanded to Help Bring Parent from South Africa to Seattle to Present at Gender Odyssey Family

Charmain Hulme is a mother of three children, including a transgender son, who lives in South Africa. She is close to completing her Master’s degree in psychology, runs support groups for parents of transgender children, and is a member of Gender DynamiX, the first African-based organization advocating for the rights of transgender, transsexual and gender non-conforming people.

Charmain would like to present at Gender Odyssey Family, and her only obstacle is the expense of travel from South Africa: one round trip ticket to the US can cost over $2000! We just need a few dozen people to pitch in $50 or $100 … really, whatever you can afford, and we can get Charmain here!

Read Charmain's story here.

Our goal is to raise $4800 USD by June 30th to help get Charmain, Tebogo and Skipper to Seattle for the conferences. All money donated will go directly towards these travel expenses. This is an amazing opportunity to create global dialogue about trans lives, civil rights, and global communities. Together we can do this! Will you help extend some North American hospitality? Please donate now.

Help Bring Tebogo Nkoana & Skipper Mogapi to Gender Odyssey
We have an amazing opportunity to create global dialogue and cultural exchange for South African and North American trans communities, but we need your help!

Tebogo Nkoana and Skipper Mogapi of South Africa and Botswana, respectively, are seeking our help and support. They wish to attend Gender Odyssey, share stories of their powerful activism across Africa, and connect with their North American brothers. Living openly as transmen, they are two of only a small handful of people willing to do so across the continent of Africa.

Tebogo and Skipper are strong activists who work especially in rural areas and black townships and strive to maintain the indigenous knowledge of African transgender and intersex identity.

Their biggest obstacle is the expense of travel. One round trip ticket to the US can cost over $2000 – and they need two of them! We just need a few dozen people to pitch in $50 or $100 … really, whatever you can afford, and we can get them here.
Will you help extend some North American hospitality? Please donate now.

Skipper Mogapi, a transman from Botswana, has founded a trans organization called Rainbow Identity in Botswana.
Tebogo Nkoana, from South Africa, works for Gender Dynamix as an outreach officer.

This is an amazing opportunity to create global dialogue about trans lives, civil rights, and global communities.
